Coventry University is a global, modern university with a mission of creating better futures. We were founded by entrepreneurs and industrialists in 1843 as the Coventry School of Design. Today, we continue to work with businesses to ensure we provide our job-ready graduates with the skills and creative thinking to improve their communities.
We were rated Gold overall in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023 (TEF). This means that we excel in what matters most to you: amazing teaching, effective learning and achieving great results.
With regards to WP2, we co-lead the training of partner institutions in CLRA approaches and coordinate how it cascades to student researchers. Through this, we contribute to appreciating ways of establishing and sustaining democratic spaces across the consortium, and consolidate the training into a module and manual, facilitating replication and deepening our grassroots understanding of democratic processes.
In WP3, we take the lead in developing an EU citizenship toolkit as well as designing and validating the EU citizenship survey. We will translate the new theoretical framework into the toolkit, which will include various scenarios and employ mixed methods derived from the CLRA projects in WP2. The quantitative survey will be created through a systematic and iterative process that involves engaging youth and local communities in democratic spaces. We will test and validate this survey, ensuring it is integrated into both the EU citizenship toolkit and the final report.
As leads of WP4 we create and facilitate an online Community of Democratic Practice involving all 17 partner organizations; a virtual learning community and environment, where learning and development are continuous between consortium partners, and all the formal researchers involved, and where the insights gained can lead to meaningful changes, both in the theoretical understanding of concepts such as European citizenship and their practical applications. This approach ensures that the project remains relevant, adaptive, and impactful, aligning closely with the evolving needs and challenges faced by the educational institutions, the young researchers and their communities involved.
As part of this we will provide strategic preparation and engagement in CLRA-COIL, a specialized adaptation of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) to be utilised by WP2, focusing on locally relevant topics and activities for cross-partner exchanges. We will facilitate and appreciate how the CLRA-COILs can serve to implement strategies for sustaining online democratic spaces in educational institutions, including integrating COILs into curricula and engaging wider community participants.
Further, we will collaborate with WP3 in analyzing and expanding the traditional understanding of European Citizenship, prioritizing the perspectives and experiences of young people and their communities. To support WP5 we will share learnings to support them in defining democratic roadmaps. With WP6 we will share our analyses and interpretations for content, as part of continuous project dissemination activities. The main deliverables will be a report on our Learning Community, a Manual for Virtual Interaction and a Manual for CLRA-COIL for Democracy
